After the 1st Mediterrenean Clay Meeting was held in Lipari (Italy) in 1992, at that time, it was decided to organize this meeting every other four years. So the following three meetings took place in Averio (Spain) in 1998, Jerusalem (Israil) in 2002 and Ankara (2006) in Turkey. Unfortunately, this important international platform in which researchers from many disciplines who are interested in the scientific and practical aspects of clays, clay minerals and related raw materials that join, present and discuss their latest research results, could not realize the period of 2010 and 2014. According to the well-established Mediterranean Clay Meetings (MCM) tradition, clay societies look for continuing MCMs to explore new boundries of clay science and technologies and pass their experiences to more creative new generations.
The Clay Science Society of Turkey, in coorperation with Chamber of Geological Engineers of Turkey has the honor of hosting the 5th Mediterranean Clay Meeting MCM2016 (www.mcm2016.org) which will be held on September 25-29, 2016 in Ilıca resort district of the town of Çeşme, near İzmir, a metropolitan city in the western extremity of Anatolia and the third most populous city in Turkey, after İstanbul and Ankara.
The scientific program of MCM-2016 is aimed to gather specialists from different disciplines all over the world, who are related to clays, clay minerals and their kindreds. It will include technical sessions in the form of oral and poster presentations, enriched by the invited speakers. The workshop and technical field excursions will be the parts of the scientific program. The social program will include welcome party, gala dinner and daily visits to the historical and natural sites along with shopping and sharing the richness of the Turkish cuisine.
